The pharmaceutical industry is in the doldrums. Food and Drug Administration drug approvals per year are falling steadily,¹ and the costs of drug development are steadily increasing.² However, although neuroscience as a whole may not be delivering the returns on investment we would like, the state of stroke medicine has never been better.

Although changing lifestyles for the better often seems intractable, pharmacotherapy has delivered effective primary prevention. Control of blood pressure, cholesterol lowering, and control of clotting in atrial fibrillation are all providing benefit. Read more
